Obituary

UNION, WV --- Dewey Elwood "Woodie" Fisher, age 87, of Union, WV went to his Heavenly Home, following an extended illness, on November 1, 2015 at Springfield Center in Lindside, WV. Born April 19, 1928 at Salt Sulphur Springs, WV he was a son of the late James W. and Mary Jane Wiekle Fisher. He was an Instrument Technician at the Celanese Corporation in Narrows, VA for 45 years. He also served 2 years in the U.S. Navy and was a part time car salesman for Monroe Motor Sales, Inc. He was a member of the Union United Methodist Church and a member of the Monroe Lodge #77 A.F. & A.M. in Union, WV. Woodie was always concerned for the wellbeing of the kids in the area and was instrumental in acquiring the land and building for the baseball field that carries his name (Fisher Field) at Beckets Park. He was known throughout the community for his love and friendship to all. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting in his younger years and fishing throughout his life. Woodie loved the mountains of Monroe County and his best friend Alex, (his beloved cat). After his retirement he spent most of his time tending to his garden, which was his passion. At the end of summer, you could find him in Union delivering bags full of produce to friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Pence, Lucille Harvey, and Maxine Westnitzer and four brothers, Harold, Stanley, Donald, and Bobby Fisher. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret of 65 years; one son, Robert Fisher of Princeton, WV; one daughter Jeanie Fisher of Apopka, FL; one sister, Marguerite Fullen of Union, WV; and one brother, Roger Fisher and wife Zona of Troutville, VA.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Rev. Frank Naglic officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery at Keenan, WV. Friends may call Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
