GAP MILLS, WV --- Daniel Edward Cox, age 74, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at his home following a sudden illness. Born March 24, 1941 at Big Ridge, VA he was the son of the late Joseph and Bonnie Cayton Cox. Mr. Cox was a heavy equipment operator and timberman. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Wallace, and Joby Cox; and one sister, Ellen Dixon. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Patsy Feury Cox of Gap Mills, WV; one daughter, Anita Hoke and husband Gerald of Gap Mills, WV; one son, Daryl Edward Cox and wife Mabel of Gap Mills, WV; three grandchildren, Jason Hoke and companion LeAnna Shafer, Daniel Cox and companion Nicole Thomas, and Teshla Elmore; one great-grandson, Cooper Cox; two brothers, Roy Cox and wife Wanda of Gap Mills, WV and Bob Cox and wife Glenna of White Sulphur, WV; three sisters, Bonnie Kendall and husband Billy of New Castle, VA, Lillian Shupe and husband Glen of Martinsville, VA, and Margaret Ellison of Narrows, VA; one sister-in-law, Carol Cox of Gap Mills, WV.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Rev. Mark Smearman officiating. Burial will follow in Cox-Cayton Cemetery at Big Ridge, VA. Friends may call Friday, January 15, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Roy Cox, Jamie Cox, Joseph Dixon, Wayne Dixon, R.J. Cox, and Daniel Cox will serve as Pallbearers.
