Obituary

WASHINGTON, DC --- Cleon Weikle, age 84, of Washington, DC formerly of Union, WV passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, DC. Born June 28, 1932 at Sarton, WV he was the son of the late Robert David and Lorena Kyle Caldwell Weikle. Mr. Weikle was retired from the United States Air Force. He had been a member of the Mt. Herman Baptist Church at Sarton, WV, the Stanley Hall Chapel at Washington, DC, and the Faith Baptist Church at Covington, VA. He was a member of the VFW Post 4299, American Legion Washington, DC, Air Medical Vac Association, and Lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. He received several high honors throughout his Military career which included a Bronze Star Medal Ribbon, Air Medal Ribbon, Air Force Commendation Medal Ribbon, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Ribbon.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Vavra Weikle; two sons, Ashley Cleon Weikle and David Weikle; one grandson, David N. Mincey; three brothers, Calvin, Hampton, and Armon Weikle; and two sisters, Fern Weikle Bennett and Betty Weikle Bennett. Survivors include, two daughters, Laurette Mincey and husband James of Union, WV and Marla Henderson and husband John of Ellicott City, MD; one brother, Pearlie Weikle of Oklahoma; five sisters, Rosetta Weikle Proctor of Keenan, WV, Amie Weikle Jenkins of Lewisburg, WV, Arvada Weikle Johnson of Charleston, WV, Irene Weikle Romonello of Clifton Forge, VA, and Lorene Weikle Shaw of Peterstown, WV; two grandsons, Joseph Mincey and wife Kristel of Gap Mills, WV and Timothy Mincey of Raleigh, NC; one granddaughter, Catherine Henderson of Ellicott City, MD; and one great-grandson, Zachery of Gap Mills, WV.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum at Clifton Forge, VA with Pastor Billy Price officiating. Friends may call Friday, August 26, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Groves Funeral Home in Union, WV. Those planning to attend the services on Saturday are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:00 a.m. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Armed Forces Retirement Home Resident Life, 3700 N.
