PICKAWAY, WV - Charlotte Richardson Compton Craft, 90, of Pickaway passed away Sunday afternoon, February 3, 2019 at Springfield in Lindside, WV.
She was born March 7, 1928 at her family home on Knobs mountain to Ingram B. Compton and Nancy Lucretie Nash Compton.
Charlotte attended a one room school, Mt. Prospect, on Knobs Mountain for grades 1-8. She graduated from Union High School in 1946. She worked several jobs but most of her work career was at Alderson Federal Reformatory for Women where she retired as Associate Warden's Secretary after twenty years of service. Following that she worked several years at Greenbrier Valley Medical center in medical records and finished out her career as staff secretary. Charlotte was also the principal caregiver to her mother and sister Mary until their deaths.
Charlotte married her love, Bob, on December 15, 1950 and they shared 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2008. It is only fitting that she passed on February 3rd as did he.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ingram B. Compton and Nancy Lucretie Nash Compton; seven sisters: Oscie, Stella, Eula, Mary, Edna, Gretis and Hazel.
Surviving is her son David Craft and his wife Beuna of Gloucester Point, VA; daughter Beth Power and her husband Bruce of Lindside, WV; five grandchildren: Justin Craft, Sarah Davis, Jessica Stone, Bruce Power, Jr., and Erin Winter; 11 great grandchildren and one sister-in-law Betty Lou Townsend.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Union Memorial Baptist Church, Union, WV with Pastor Mark Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Union, WV. Friends may call Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Church.
