UNION, WV --- Charles Cleveland Shaver, age 81, of Union, WV, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015 at his residence following a short illness. Born August 5, 1934 at Union, WV he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Pearl Faulkiner Shaver. Mr. Shaver was a 1955 graduate of Union High School. Later, he was the Farm Manager for the Andrew S. Rowan Farm at Sweet Springs. He retired from the B.F. Goodrich Plant in Union as Maintenance Supervisor after 22 years of service. Mr. Shaver was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of the Union United Methodist Church. He had a lifelong love of farming, especially spending time with his family at the cabin. He had a great love for sports, from playing, to coaching, to cheering for all of his grandchildren. He also loved his family and enjoyed every minute spent with them, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant sons, John David and Gregory Shaver; four sisters, Belma Shaver, Eva Mann, Robbie Shaver, and an infant sister, Geraldine Shaver; two brothers, Robert "Bob" and Hubert Shaver. Survivors include, his loving wife of 55 years Geraldine "Gerry" O'Brien Shaver of Union, WV; one son, Karl "Chuck" Shaver and wife Leisha of Alderson, WV; one daughter, Laura Rice and husband Johnathan of Union, WV; two sister-in-laws, Sue Shaver of Lewisburg, WV and Geneva Shaver of White Sulphur Spirngs, WV; five grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Shaver of Alderson, WV, Kaitlyn " Kaitie" Danielle Shaver of Alderson, WV, Margaret Anne Rice of Union, WV, William Cleveland "Will" Rice of Union, WV, and Karlei Mae Shaver of Alderson, WV; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the family farm, also known as the "Willow Bend Dream Farm" on the Willow Bend Road just outside of Union, with Pastor Frank Naglic officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery at Union, WV, where the WV Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call Monday, September 7, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
