Sinks Grove, WV – Charles Lewis "One Shot" McCormick, age 86, passed away on July 14, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones. Born February 6, 1940, in Union, WV, he was the son of Harry and Mary Katherine McCormick.
Lewis was an avid farmer and hunter his entire life. He had a strong passion for horses and bear hunting. He developed many lifelong friendships over the years, whether it was at a show ring, horse pull, or during a chase in the woods. He had a great love for farming and enjoyed raising sheep and cattle throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy "Granny" McCormick; three brothers, Bob, Gus, and John McCormick; four sisters, Jane Dillon, June Turner, Phyllis Crickenburger, and Bettye Bloodworth; and his lifelong best friend, who was like family, John D. Laws.
"Pawpa" Lewis took extreme pride in his family, especially his 11 great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Sue Gillette of Portsmouth, VA; his son, Michael McCormick of Sinks Grove; daughter, Cathy (Don) Hylton of Ronceverte; grandson, Jason (Leah) Hylton of Ronceverte; granddaughter, Sara (Trent) White of Sinks Grove; granddaughter, Megan Ivins (Charles) of Lexington, VA; and great-grandchildren Hunter, Chase, Autumn, and Seth Hylton; Abigail, Lane, Colton, and Chloe White; and Jacob, Hannah, and Audrey Ivins. Lewis had several nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved.
A funeral service will be held at Groves-Mann Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Greg Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the New Lebanon Cemetery in Pickaway, WV. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00–2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Simmons, Josh Kimberlin, David Schumaker, Herbert Scott, Kurt Alderman, Tim Blankenship, and Charles Crawford. Honorary pallbearers include Mick Eskins, Jim Taylor, Jack Schumaker, David Deem, Paul Carter, Jamie Cox, Matthew Cover, Tommy Reynolds, and Kent King.
