ALTA, WV --- Billy Ray Nelson, age 74, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his son's residence in Princeton, WV. Born May 17, 1946 in Greenbrier County, WV, he was the son of the late Willis and Bertha Asbury Nelson. Billy was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He had worked as a coal miner and several other self-employed jobs throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed playing a game of cards with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Nelson; and a brother, Barry Nelson. Survivors include, two sons, Mark Nelson and wife Susan of Princeton, WV and Nolan Nelson of Gap Mills, WV; one daughter, Marsha Brown and husband Tim of Wilmington, North Carolina; three sisters, Lena, Loma, and Lorretta; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Billy's wishes he will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at his son's home in Princeton, WV.
