Obituary

GREENVILLE, WV --- Billie Jene Wickline, age 77, of Greenville, WV, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA, following a short illness. She was born on May 12, 1946, in Mullins, WV, to Bill Miles and Sylvia Jean Gimbert.

Around the age of four, she moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where she lived and graduated from Great Bridge High School. Billie married Edmond (Kay) Wickline on July 5, 1964. After a three-year assignment in Germany, while Kay served in the Army, they returned to the states and resided in Greenville, WV, the remainder of her life.

Billie began working as a Kindergarten Aide for the Monroe County School System and retired after 33 years' service. Her son, Chuck, attended the first class of her career.

Since the early seventies, Billie loved going to Waves, North Carolina. It meant spending time with family and people that would pop in at Jeannie's place where Billie's smile and her natural inclination to connect with folks, always brought new friends. Billie enjoyed walking the beach, picking up shells, and breathing the fresh Atlantic air. She loved stopping at a local bakery, then riding the ferry to Ocracoke Island which was her mother's favorite place and hers as well. The beaches in North Carolina are a location Billie could relax and enjoy the ocean.

Billie was a strong, independent woman and the backbone of her family.  She managed family affairs and loved being with people and they loved her in return. Billie adored and was proud of her son and grandson, who she spoke about in every conversation. They have a passion for the beaches in Cape Hatteras as she did. Billie was always ready for fun and taking on new adventures. She enjoyed spending time with her close friends, known as the "Fruit Cake Chicks", running errands or just spending time together.

She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Karl Keeney; maternal grandparents J. Lee and Edith Selvey (Mom and Pop); Bernie and Louise Selvey; mother-in-law Helen Meadows; father-in-law Vernon Wickline; sister-in-law Karen Jayne Blankenship; and Donald Bradley, Rock Camp, WV.

She is survived by her husband Kay of almost 60 years, Greenville, WV; one son Chuck (Tina) Wickline, Pickaway, WV; one grandson Christopher Wickline, Lillington, NC; sisters Elizabeth (Clark) Barrett, Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia; Kathy Keeney, Norfolk, VA; and Susan (Michael) Lesher, Moscow, OH; brother and sister-in-law's Larry (Ginny) Wickline, Sarton, WV; Benny (Gloria) Wickline, Zenith, WV; Jhanna Lively, Peterstown, WV, and Truman Blankenship, Greenville, WV; nieces and nephews Andea, Tayler, Hannah, Shannon, Gregg, Geoff, Charity, Helena, Miranda; and several great-nieces and nephews. In addition, special friends Connie Belcher, Donna Dalton, Margie Pence, and Mrs. Doris Virginia Alley.

Billie was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church in Greenville, WV.  She attended the Union Church of God in Union, WV.
