UNION, WV --- Berniece Sarah Clarkson Edwards, age 87, of Union, WV went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, WV. Born January 9, 1929 at Gap Mills, WV she was the daughter of the late Preston and Zymnia Ada Clarkson. Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker and a member of the Union United Methodist Church at Union, WV. She was also the last surviving member of her siblings. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harrison Edwards; two daughters, Loretta Smith and Doris Kay Brown; brothers and sisters, Staley Clarkson, Norvell Clarkson, Isaiah Clarkson, Stanley Clarkson, Otis Clarkson, Maxwell Clarkson, Mabel Bostic, Ethel Portifield, and Beatrice Boggs.
Survivors include, her children, Roger Warren Smith and wife Judy of Lewisburg, WV, Joanie Edwards Newton and husband Rick of Winchester, VA, and William Joseph Edwards of Lewisburg, WV; two granddaughters, Shannon Smith and Julie Mundell; three grandsons, Craig Brown, Timothy Brown, and Benjamin Windon; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Union United Methodist Church at Union, WV, with Rev. George P. Clarkson officiating. Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery at Gap Mills, WV. Friends may call Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Groves Funeral Home in Union, WV and one hour prior to the services on Sunday at the Church.
