Anna Catherine “Kitty” Ellard, aged 94, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, and went home to see her husband, daughter, son, and son-in-law. As her grandson writing this, I’m sure she’s in heaven baking cakes for them right now.
She was born in Glenray, WV, on June 17, 1932, to Loney Patton Honaker and Ruby Smith Honaker. She moved to Alderson where she was a majorette in the Alderson High School band as well as performed theatre. She was very proud of her time there, with her teachers saying she could become an actress. It was there she met the love of her life and would go on to marry Richard Ellard.
Kitty and Richard would go on to have two kids, Kathy and Michael. They were very active in the start of Union’s little league baseball organization, and she was a proud member of the firemenette’s group to support the Union volunteer fire department. She was very proud to have worked at Dr. George Guy’s office for many years and always talked about how many babies she helped deliver.
She loved working in her flower gardens and sitting on her back porch having conversations with all of her friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard; son, Michael; daughter, Kathy; and son-in-law, Bob Mann.
She is survived by her grandsons, Michael Mann from Union, and Putter Mann (Kirby) from Ghent, WV; her nieces and nephews, with special niece Barbara Bowles; and special friends Gene and Linda Wilson.
The family appreciates all the help given by Ebony and Crystal at Peyton Hospice House.
In lieu of flowers, Kitty requested donations be made to Monroe County Shrine Club. They can be mailed or delivered to 231 South Street Union, WV 24983.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV, with Pastor Todd Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Union, WV. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
