SINKS GROVE, WV -- Alice "Lorene" Dowdy Helvey, age 89, daughter of Clyde R. Dowdy and Lena Bostic Dowdy, was born on October 24, 1928 at Keenan, WV. She died on June 24, 2018 at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, WV. She lived most of her life on Eads Mountain. She was a member of Bruffey Memorial United Methodist Church of Hollywood, WV.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Helvey; parents, her step mother, Lottie Dowdy, her brothers; Emmett, Everette, Mason, Glenn, Albert, Charles and Ira; her sisters, Thelma, Velma, Myrtle, Irene, Janice, Evelyn and Betty; her son, Ronald Helvey; her daughter in law, Pattie Helvey; a daughter, Carolyn A. Trainer and a great grand-daughter, Sierra Wykle. Those left to cherish her memory includes her son, Tom Helvey of Hollywood, WV; her daughters, Norma Helvey of Hollywood, WV, , Rosemary Halcomb and her husband, Randy of Chesapeake, VA; and Kathy Helvey of Hollywood, WV; her son-in-law Frank of Neola, WV; her grandchildren Lee Helvey and his family of Caldwell, WV; Melodie Wykle and her family of Ronceverte, WV; Randall Halcomb, Jr. and his family of Chesapeake, VA , Christina Goins and her family of Smoot, WV; Anthony Helvey of Caldwell, WV; Holly Halcomb of Chesapeake, VA. She has 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Ilamae Morgan of Organ Cave, WV and Peggy Ladd of Ravena, OH and brother Billy Whitlock of Marie, WV, brother in law, Junior Helvey of Wenatchee, WA; sister in laws, Connie Helvey of South Carolina and Betty Helvey of Virginia.
Visitation will be at Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV on Thursday June 28 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, June 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Hollywood Tabernacle. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in her memory to her church, Bruffey Memorial United Methodist Church.
