SWEET SPRINGS, WV --- Alfred Lanier Sams, age 78, of Sweet Springs, WV, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at his residence. Born January 5, 1942 in Sweet Springs, WV, he was the son of the late Elmer C. Sams, Sr. and Ruth R. Baker Sams. Alfred was a lifelong farmer and he loved his family dearly. He was always willing to help out his neighbors and anyone in need. Alfred also attended the Dunlap Christian Church in Crows, VA.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy C. Sams; one son, Alfred "Glenn" Sams; and one brother, Elmer Sams, Jr. Survivors include his two daughters, Dina Feury and husband Rick of Sweet Springs, WV and Debbie Hawkins and husband Mike of Union, WV; two brothers, Charlie Sams and wife Ramona of Union, WV and Mike Sams and wife Patti of Lewisburg, WV; one sister, Barbara Nicely and husband Ronnie of Roanoke, VA; four grandchildren, Alexis Johnson, Allison Farren and husband Joe, Brandon Hawkins, and Makenzie Hawkins; four great-grandchildren, Gunner O'Dell, Branson Lilly, Ryan Farren, and Jason Farren; and special friend, Mary Jane Hoke of Sweet Springs, WV.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2020 at the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in Union, WV with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Salt Sulphur, WV. The Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 12:00 until time of services at the funeral home.
