GREENVILLE, WV --- Virginia "Aldene" Welder Humphreys died Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, WV.
Aldene (age 94) was born in Marie, WV on Nov. 1, 1925. She was the oldest of nine children born to Rodney & Edith Cody Welder.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Humphreys, her parents and her brothers Bobby Welder, Franklin Welder, Rodney Leo Welder, sister Christine Lively. brothers-in -law Charles Lively, Sterling Phillips, Bob Humphreys & sister-in-law Opal Welder. She was the last survivor of the Leonard Humphreys siblings and spouses- George & Hallie Humphreys, Ida & Kenneth Hutchison, Mary Webb and Verna & Paul McNeer.
She is survived by daughters Hilda Mann and husband Raymond of Rockingham, VA, Ruby Crosier and husband Harold of Lake Mary, FL, Beuna Craft and husband David of Gloucester Point, VA and son Donald Humphreys of Roanoke, VA ; 5 Grandchildren- Andera Ledford (Brian), Angela Crosier, Jennifer Carickhoff (Jason), Justin Craft (Heidi), Sarah Davis (Daniel). 10 Great Grandchildren -Alyssa Wilson (Wade), Jacob Ledford, Claudia White, Cassandra White, Sean Carickhoff, Olivia Carickhoff, Simon Craft, Logan Craft, Landon Davis & Tyler Davis; 2 Great Great Grandchildren – Jack Wilson & Ada Wilson. She is survived by sisters Norma Phillips of Saltville, VA and Judy Humphreys of Lewisburg, WV and brothers Ronnie Welder and wife Carolyn of Milton, WV and Keith Welder and wife Nancy of Cleveland, TN and also sister-in-laws, Delma P. Welder of Kingsport, TN and Judy S. Welder of Kimberly, WV.


The Welder family are descendants of the Cooks Fort Pioneers. Aldene was a lifelong resident of Greenville and the oldest member of the Greenville United Methodist Church. She was a loving Mother, Mawmaw, Aunt and Great Aunt with a large family and was extremely proud of each of their accomplishments. She had many beloved friends & neighbors she cherished. The highlight of her year was always the annual Welder family reunion. After 3 winters living in Florida with her children her wishes were to be back home in Monroe County. Countryview Assisted Living was her home for over the past six years. She loved the Staff and all the acitivies. She seemed to make herself the self appointed welcoming committee assisting everybody. She was always ready for Bingo any day.


The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Greenville United Methodist Cemetery, with the graveside service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the cemetery with Pastor Jim Rogers & grandson Rev. Brian Ledford presiding. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
